London
Makina is an independent publisher based in Stoke Newington, London. Our books (Livia Franchini, David Moore, Eloise Hendy, Flo Brooks, Alanna McArdle) celebrate independent voices in photography, poetry, fiction and prose. Our books showcase poetry, photography, fiction and prose. We currently make books in the ongoing series’ – New Words and Makina Archive. In 2019 we launched the Makina Books Podcast which focusses on narratives in publishing.
Makina is named after the Plaubel Makina—a medium format camera popular with the ‘new colour documentarists’ in the 1980s. The ‘Makina’ makes a 6×7 frame – the inspiration for our boxier format celebrated in our ongoing New Words series. Our titles are held in several collections, including; Whitney Museum of American Art Library (New York) National Library of Scotland, Stills Centre for Photography, University of the Arts London and the National Poetry Library (London).
